Fayette County 4-H Benefit Auction scheduled for July 13
The 13th annual Fayette County 4-H Benefit Auction will begin at 6 p.m. July 13 in the Youth Building at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, located along Route 119 in Dunbar Township. This is a fundraiser that benefits all local 4-H youths.
Last year’s auction raised nearly $13,000.
“Half of the funds go towards scholarships for 4-H members who are continuing their education. Half goes to supporting 4-H programs: helping with registration fees for local youths for regional, state and national events and also supporting school enrichment programs like the embryology project and traditional clubs,” said Jennifer Deichert, Penn State Extension educator, 4-H and youth development for Fayette County.
Open to the public, the auction will include themed baskets, resort and hotel stays, primitive crafts and collectables, golf packages, tickets to sporting events, amusement parks and other local attractions, home and garden supplies, jewelry and purses, hunting and fishing supplies, restaurant and business gift cards, furniture, massage and spa packages among the many items.
Auction preview starts at 3:30 p.m. Buyer registration is at 5:30 p.m.
In addition, the public can support the 4-H Livestock Auction that is held during the Fayette County Fair. This year’s event will take place at 5 p.m. Aug. 3 in the Indoor Arena.
The livestock auction includes entries shown at 4-H market animal competition during the fair. Money raised at the livestock auction goes directly to 4-H youths who exhibit the animals while buyers have the option to resell an animal with the money going to the 4-H Livestock Scholarship Fund.
The 2017 4-H Livestock Auction generated more than $363,000 with more than 300 animals sold.
