Uniontown to hold commencement exercises
Members of the Uniontown Area High School senior class will receive diplomas in a graduation ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. June 8 in the school’s Margaret A. Emelson Auditorium.
Valedictorian Emma Holt, salutatorian Jeremy Saliba and class president Connor DeMoss will address their classmates at the ceremony.
Keynote speaker and 1965 Uniontown Senior High School alumnus Dr. Ross F. DiMarco Jr., a retired Pittsburgh-based cardiovascular surgeon who currently serves as president of the Three Rivers Cardiac Institute, will also address the class of 2018.
Holt is a daughter of Gary and Tracy Holt.
She was a member of the National Honors Society, Math Team, Academic League, Science Olympiad, Art Club, National Art Honors Society and marching band, on which she served as section leader of the flute and piccolo section for two years.
Holt was a Fayette Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month, Uniontown Rotary Student of the Month, Harvard Prize Book recipient and AP Scholar with Honor Award recipient.
She plans to attend Temple University.
Saliba is a son of Gerry and Shelley Saliba.
He was treasurer of the Spanish Club and a member of the Academic League and Hometown High-Q Quiz teams. A three-year letter-winner on the baseball team, he was an all-section and all-county performer.
Saliba was awarded Fayette Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month, Uniontown Rotary Club Student of the Month, Daughters of the American Revolution Award, National Academy of Future Physicians Award of Excellence, AP Scholar Award and the Marine Corps Academic Award. He was selected as the school’s spring representative for the Centennial Chevrolet Scholar/Athlete.
Saliba also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America.
He plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to major in biological science on a pre-med track.
DeMoss is a son of Robert and Michelle DeMoss.
He served as class president for four years and was a member of the National Honors Society, United Bank 4.0 Club, SADD Club, Student Council, Interact Club, Spanish Club, 5-Year Language Club and the school newspaper. He served as student representative to the Uniontown Area School Board.
DeMoss earned varsity letters in basketball and baseball. A four-year member of the baseball team, he was a two-time all-county and all-section performer named to the Keystone State Games baseball team in 2017. He also was chosen as an All-Area Elite baseball player by the Herald-Standard and selected as the school’s Most Outstanding Male Athlete.
DeMoss was recipient of the Challenge Program Attendance Award, U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, 2018 Faculty Award, Helen Brice Scholarship, Jerod Chapman Memorial Scholarship, Scott Vrable Memorial Scholarship and the Wolford Swimmer Memorial Scholarship.
DeMoss plans to continue his academic and baseball careers at Mercyhurst University, where he will study communications/sports media. He will intern with the school’s Division I men’s hockey team during the upcoming season.
