Carmichaels class of 2018 to receive diplomas
Members of the Carmichaels Area Senior High School senior class will receive diplomas at a graduation ceremony June 1 at 7:15 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The ceremony will highlight class valedictorians Cayleigh Pratt and Charles Lowry and salutatorian Evan Burnett. Senior class president Kristina Aeschbacher will address the class, as will keynote speaker and 1990 alumnus Captain Aaron “Muddy” Waters, who currently serves as chief of the business operations division of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Force Readiness Command.
Pratt is a daughter of Kimberly Simon-Pratt and Kevin Pratt of Carmichaels.
While in school, Pratt was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Standing Committee, French club, chemistry club, anatomy club, marching band and concert band. She served as senior high drum major, newspaper editor and senior yearbook editor and was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
Pratt was the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship and Good Neighbor Award and was recognized by the Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club as February Girl-of-the-Month.
Outside of school, Pratt enjoys studying all forms of dance at In Motion Dance & Fitness.
She plans to attend Washington & Jefferson College and major in chemistry and neuroscience.
Lowry, of Nemacolin, is a son of C.J. Lowry and Leanna Madich. He plans to attend Penn State Fayette to major in nursing.
Lowry was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Standing Committee, Student Council, band, ski club, chemistry club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and was a Relay for Life Youth Ambassador. He was also a member of the football and basketball teams.
A recipient of the Penn State Fayette CWC First-Year Award scholarship and Campus Provost Award scholarship, Lowry was also named a Herald-Standard Scholar Athlete, a Tri-County South Football Conference All-Star, a Tri-County South Scholar Athlete and a Lions Club Boy-of-the-Month.
Lowry’s interests outside of school include running, pogo-sticking and skateboarding.
Burnett is a son of Bradley and Debra Burnett of Carmichaels. He plans to attend West Virginia University and major in electrical engineering.
In school, Burnett was vice president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Senior Standing Committee and Quarterbacks of Life.
Burnett was a three-year letter-winner on the varsity football team, where he was a two-time all-conference and all-county selection.
Outside of school, he volunteers at various community events.
Aeschbacher is a daughter of Candy and Rob Aeschbacher of Rices Landing.
Aeschbacher’s activities include volleyball, basketball, marching band, concert band, chemistry club and vice president of student council.
She is the recipient of athletic-volleyball and academic scholarships from West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was named Carmichaels representative for Heisman Award, Carmichaels Positive Athlete and McCracken Athlete of the Week.
After graduation, Aeschbacher plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College and major in sports business.
To aid seniors in their post-secondary school finances, two scholarships will be granted to qualified students. The Paul and Dolores Jazwa Lavins Scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors, while the Holupka-Marinoff Gift Fund will also help pay for one student’s education.
