Fayette Firefighters Association holding annual essay contest
The Fayette County Firefighters Association is inviting fifth through eighth grade students in all of the county’s schools to participate in this year’s fire prevention essay program.
The theme is Smoke Detectors: Make Them Work For You. By participating, students will learn the number of smoke detectors that are needed in a home, the proper placement of detectors, and testing and replacement intervals.
Ten winners from each grade will be chosen. Winners, their families, teachers and school principals will be recognized at the association’s December meeting.
Students who have placed in other years’ contests could be eligible for additional awards. The Fire Chief Award will also be given to a student who includes a factual or fictional account of an event that puts this year’s theme into practice.
Additional information, including contest deadlines, is available at students’ schools.
