Albert Gallatin school directors awarded contracts totaling nearly $250,000 for work associated with an ongoing sewage project in the district.
The school board at its May meeting approved the bids of Piccolomini Contractors Inc. of Walterburg to perform sewage line replacement at Albert Gallatin Area High School and the former D. Ferd Swaney Elementary School, both located in York Run, in amounts of $208,825 and $21,000, respectively.
A separate bid was awarded to John T. Subrick Inc. of Eighty Four to perform the same work at the district’s administration office, located along Route 119 in Georges Township, at a cost of $17,795.
The construction is a part of an ongoing project by the Fairchance-Georges Joint Municipal Authority to install public sewer lines throughout its coverage area. The authority secured $20 million in funding in 2017 to expand its treatment facility and add about 90,000 feet of sewer lines and a 450-gallon-per-minute pump station.
According to district solicitor Lee Price, Albert Gallatin is now responsible for connecting its buildings to the new lines.
Superintendent Chris Pegg said the project will include tying the three buildings into the public sewage system, getting manholes up to code and demolishing the current treatment facility utilized by the two York Run school buildings.
Construction will be performed over summer and is expected to be completed before the start of next school year, said Pegg.
