Members of the Carmichaels Area High School senior class received diplomas at a graduation ceremony at 7:15 p.m. May 31 in the high school gymnasium.
Senior class president Matthew Joseph Barrish will address his classmates in a ceremony that will highlight class valedictorians Barrish, Jacob Daniel Hair and Stephen John Zacoi. Also addressing the graduating class is keynote speaker and 1994 alumna Lt. Kelly L. Cartwright, who serves as fleet bandmaster of the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet Band.
Barrish is a son of Andrew and Kristen Barrish.
He is a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Standing Committee, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Chemistry Club; captain of the Mikes’ golf, basketball and baseball teams; and editor of the yearbook staff.
He is a two-time section golf individual champion; an all-section basketball and baseball selection; an all-county golf, basketball and baseball selection; a Herald-Standard Scholar Athlete; and a five-time Greene-Sports Athlete of the Week.
Barrish is a recipient of the Tri-CADA Scholar Athlete Award Scholarship, WPIAL Scholar Athlete Scholarship, Fairmont State University Out-of-State Neighbors Scholarship and William White Athletic Scholarship.
Outside of school, he is a food bank volunteer, math tutor, King Coal Youth Baseball umpire and First United Methodist Church youth group member and liturgist.
Barrish plans to attend Fairmont State University to study civil engineering.
Hair is a son of John and Patty Hair.
He is president of the National Honor Society, treasurer of the senior class and a member of Peer Court, Chemistry Club, SADD, Debate Team, newspaper staff and the baseball and basketball teams.
Hair is a Herald-Standard Scholar Athlete, a recipient of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award and a member of the 2018 and 2019 Pennsylvania Envirothon championship teams.
Additionally, Hair is an altar server at St. Hugh Catholic Church and a baseball umpire.
In the fall, he will attend Pennsylvania State University and major in meteorology and atmospheric science.
Zacoi is a son of John and Katherine Zacoi.
He is captain of the Academic League and a member of Peer Court, Debate Team, SADD, Senior Standing Committee, National Honor Society, Quarterbacks of Life, broadcasting and morning announcements and the 2018 and 2019 Pennsylvania Envirothon championship teams.
He is a member of East Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Zacoi plans to attend Pennsylvania State University in the fall to study computer information sciences and technologies.
