Jacqueline's Fine Jewelry is the latest jewelry business to make its way to the Uniontown area.

Uniontown native Tom Licciardi got his first taste of the jewelry business when he worked for a wholesale diamond dealer in Las Vegas. That turned into a desire to open a jewelry shop of his own, which he did with several partners in Morgantown, W. Va., seven years ago.

"Three and a half years ago, I bought out my partners and founded Jacqueline's," he said. "Jacqueline is the name of my great aunt and godmother. She's sort of the patriarch of the family, and I wanted to honor her in this way."

The business has continued to grow over those three and a half years, which spurred Licciardi to look at expanding.

"I think the reason for our success is two-fold -- our product and our service," he said. "We offer a much higher quality than you can get at the chain stores, and we do it with a very easy, non-pushy service. We want to create a family atmosphere for our customers."

Charles "Bud" Martin, general manager of the jewelry stores, added that they want to provide a great experience for their customers.

"Buying a ring should be exciting and fun and not tedious and frustrating," he said.

Licciardi said they also offer unique items. including cuff links, pens and other gift ware and "not just the same thing you see in every other store."

Martin added that they offer pieces starting at $35 and up.

"One of our goals is to offer something for everyone," he said. "It doesn't matter the amount of money they're willing to spend, we just want to get them the most beautiful piece that we can get them on their budget."

While Licciardi currently lives in the Cheat Lake area, he said Uniontown was a natural choice for his second location because he is originally from the area and his family currently owns the building at 30 S. Mount Vernon Ave., where the new business is located.

Licciardi said while they offer every type of jewelry imaginable, if they had to name a specialty, it would be engagement rings and diamonds.

"We have the most state-of-the-art, custom design center around," he said. "We create 3-D models digitally on a computer screen, and we can then alter the shapes and sizes.

"We're introducing technology now where you can actually see it on your hand or wrist," he added.

Martin said they have the ability to 100 percent custom design any idea.

"If we can get your thoughts out of your head, we can make it," he said.

Licciardi said his mom Jenny Licciardi and his wife Kim Licciardi both do help out with the business at times, but added that his entire staff is like an extension of his family.

"We are all looking forward to being part of the Uniontown community," he said. "Our mission is to give back to the community and to truly be a part of it.

"It's nice seeing all of the people in Uniontown that I knew when I was growing up but haven't seen in years," Licciardi added.

They are continuing to look at other opportunities for expansion.
