From Scratch still opened for business Wednesday after vandals broke windows at the Uniontown eatery.

Jamie Pikulsky, owner of the eatery From Scratch in Uniontown, woke up to a barrage of voicemails, text messages and Facebook notifications Wednesday morning.

The notifications, unfortunately, came because her business was one of several in the city vandalized overnight.

Two large front door windows and several smaller windows on the side of her 23 N. Beeson Ave. building were broken. Police also said Sam’s Restaurant on Morgantown Street and Boulevard Beauty Salon on North Gallatin Avenue were targeted.

“I guess it’s just part of being a business owner,” said Pikulsky, who worked to clean up the damage Wednesday.

Uniontown police public information officer Tom Kolencik said the buildings were all hit by rocks.

“Somebody has a Facebook video, but it doesn’t show (who was) causing the damage,” Kolencik said.

Throughout the day, friends and regular customers checked in with Pikulsky to see how she was doing, and to see what they might do to help. And, by noon, the glass had been cleaned up, measurements had been taken to repair the broken windows, and new business logos were being printed.

An emotional Pikulsky said her biggest concern was being able to pay her employees and for her, that meant not closing.

Her customers had her back with a busier-than-usual lunch rush.

“I try to look at it from the perspective of what good can come out of it,” she said. Wednesday. “It just really shows me how much people care.”
