Applications open for businesses, vendors who want to provide services for NFL Draft
The 2026 NFL Draft that is set to unfold in Pittsburgh a little more than a year from now is expected to be an economic touchdown for the region, and business owners are being invited to get in on the drive to the goal line.
The NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers and VisitPITTSBURGH, Allegheny County’s tourism promotion agency, are seeking applications from businesses for a variety of support services during the event, which is expected to draw thousands of visitors to the area.
The businesses selected from the 10-county region in and around Pittsburgh will be handling things both big and small, from financial and legal services to food trucks, janitorial services, equipment rentals, portable toilets, security staffing and more.
The Greene County Chamber of Commerce will be alerting its members about the opportunity in its upcoming newsletter, according to Mandi Fordyce, the chamber’s communications and membership coordinator.
“We definitely want to get that out to our members,” Fordyce said.
Word about the program is getting out to business owners in Fayette County, according to Mark Rafail, the economic development coordinator for the county, and they have “already started talking about it.”
He added that the NFL Draft being in Pittsburgh next year will be a big opportunity for Fayette County.
“These events bring hundreds of thousands of people,” he said. “We would feel the effect of that coming to Fayette County.”
Applications are being accepted through Wednesday, May 7, and businesses that are selected will be notified by the end of June. In order to participate in what is being called the 2026 Draft Source Program, a business has to be a direct source of the goods and services being offered; be in good standing and eligible to do business in Pennsylvania; and have headquarters within the greater Pittsburgh area, which includes Washington, Greene, Fayette, Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Indiana, Lawrence and Westmoreland counties.
Applications are also being encouraged from businesses that have been in operation since April 2023, and from certified diverse businesses according to federal guidelines, which would be 51% owned and operated by a minority, woman, person with disabilities, LGBTQ+ or a veteran.
The 2026 draft will be the first time that Pittsburgh has hosted an NFL draft since 1948. It’s expected to be an economic bonanza for the region. When the draft happened in Detroit last year, it had an economic impact of more than $200 million on the city’s metropolitan area, according to a report from the Detroit Sports Commission and Visit Detroit.
Local officials are anticipating that hotels throughout the area will be booked to capacity, since there are only 8,000 hotel rooms in Pittsburgh. After a recent meeting between representatives of the Pittsburgh Steelers and county officials from throughout the region, Fayette County Commissioner Vince Vicities said, “It’s probably the biggest event there is in sports. A Super Bowl wouldn’t even bring that many people in.”
It’s also possible that law enforcement and EMS departments from Washington, Greene and Fayette counties will be deployed to assist their Pittsburgh counterparts during the event.
