LH back-to-school events

Laurel Highlands School District will hold the following back-to-school events:

n Chromebook distribution, Aug. 19. A 1-hour, mandatory orientation for all students in grades 6-9 and their parents/guardians in the high school auditorium. Students should report at the following times based on the first letter of their last names: A-G, 8:30 a.m.; H-M, 10 a.m.; N-S, 12:30 p.m.; T-Z, 2 p.m.

n Kindergarten orientation and bus run, 10-11:30 a.m. Aug. 21. For all kindergarten or new students and their parents/guardians. Students who wish to ride the practice bus run should report to their bus stop by 9:30 a.m. Parents may ride the bus with their child. Bus schedules will be posted at www.lhsd.org under each school.

n Middle school, meet the teacher, 6-8 p.m. Aug. 21.

n Elementary schools, open house, 6-8 p.m. Aug. 22.

n High school, freshmen orientation, 6-6:45 p.m. Aug. 22; meet the teacher, 6-8 p.m. Aug. 22.

Cal U move-in day

Move-In Day for first-year students on the main campus at California University of Pennsylvania is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 23. Returning students will move into main-campus housing from noon-4 p.m. Aug. 25. At Vulcan Village on Cal U’s upper campus, new and returning students will move into residence halls 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 23-24, and noon-4 p.m. Aug. 25. Welcome Weekend will be held Aug. 23-25 to help new students ready for the school year on campus. The start of the fall semester is Aug. 26. In addition to activities planned on campus, students and the public may attend the California Borough Recreation Authority’s seventh annual RiverFest, which takes place 1-9 p.m. Aug. 24-25.
