Uniontown High School students to present musical ‘No, No, Nanette’

3 min read

The Uniontown Area High School will present “No, No, Nanette” as its spring musical on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 18-20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Margaret A. Emelson Auditorium. Even before its Broadway opening in 1925, “No, No, Nanette” was regarded as a success because of the popularity of its two biggest hit songs, “Tea for Two” and “I Want to Be Happy.”

The show was successfully revived in 1971 using the legendary talents of Busby Berkeley and Ruby Keeler and has since become a staple of summer theaters across the nation.

Set in a more innocent time, the plot revolves around Jimmy Smith played by Matthew Smalley, a noted Bible publisher, his wife played by Emily Jarina, their teenage niece Nanette played by Meg Thompson and their overworked maid Pauline played by Sarah Howarth.

In an attempt to keep secret his innocent involvement with three goldiggers played by Sara Peskie, Kathleen Hudik and Kathryn Brittingham, Jimmy enlists the aid of his attorney Billy Early played by Jeremy Lee.

Assisting in the cover-up is Tom played by Anthony Gulino, Nanette’s boyfriend, who arranges to meet the threesome in Atlantic City.

Billy’s wife Lucille played by Lauren Smiley finds out about this and suspects her husband of infidelity.

Fortunately, by the time the curtain closes, everything works out for the best.

Offering support as the singing/dancing chorus are Laura Bobick, Jayme Borris, Anna Brown, Katie Coburn, Allison Dzurnak, Amanda Emery, Marissa Flesher, Nicole Franks, Kenneth Hager, Jesse Heslop, Julia Hyjurick, Nicole Layhue, Ashley Lowery, Liz McDonald, Bethany Moreau, Doug Myers, Emily Nalevanko, Katilee Parnell, Amanda Wagner and Mariah Zajac.

Music is under the direction of Roddy Hibbs with support in the pit by Keri Burnsworth, Nicole Carolla, Ashley Fedorko, Tyler Grimm, Julie Karolewics, Steven Lint, David Marinich, Nicole Novak, Brett Schimmel, Katelyn Schaefer and Zack Wilson.

The production is being directed by Ron Bronson with Matthew Dowling serving as student director/stage manager.
