Nemacolin Woodlands to host benefit art exhibition, sale

FARMINGTON – The Hardy Family Art Collection will present the third annual Art Exhibition and Sale to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia on Saturday, May 4, through Sunday, May 12, at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa in Farmington. A Meet the Artist Reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in The Gallery.

It will feature appetizers and wine tasting.

The event is free and open to the public.

A dinner and dance entitled “Wish Upon a Star” will be held from 7:30 p.m. to midnight in the Marquis Ballroom.

The event will feature wine and silent auctions and entertainment by The Bobby Nichols Band. Tickets are $75 per person.

Make-A-Wish will receive $25 from each ticket sold, which is tax deductible.

The exhibition will consist of pieces from 80 local, national and internationally acclaimed artists.

Some of the featured artists include:

– James Auckland of Southern California, who does NFL-commissioned portraits, illustrations in sports books, magazines, programs and trading cards.

– Stephen Holland of New York, one of the nation’s foremost contemporary artists, who uses athletes as the subject.

– Robert Peak (1927-92), who is known as the “father of the modern movie poster.” The exhibit will feature more than 100 posters, including “My Fair Lady,” “Star Trek,” “Superman” and “Apocalypse Now.”

– Francis E. Sweet of Maryland, president of the Society of Animal Artists – World Organization of the Greatest Animal Artists.

– “Royo,” today’s Spanish master painter.

– Andy Warhol (1928-87), filmmaker and founder of the pop art movement.

Featured sculptors include Barney Boller of New York, Ed Dwight of Colorado, Prince Monyo of Florida and Wendy Taylor of England. The exhibit will feature an impressive range of more than 50 large-scale, site-specific sculptures and more original permanent sculptures on public display than any other living British artist.

All events require cocktail attire and feature a cash bar.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia will receive 20 percent of the proceeds of each piece sold, $25 of each ticket sold and all proceeds from the auctions, all of which is tax deductible.
