PITTSBURGH – Earth-friendly organizations from the Pittsburgh area will be at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium on Saturday to celebrate Earth Day. As part of its ongoing mission of conservation, the zoo is hosting a day of interactive and fun educational activities to raise environmental awareness. The event is sponsored by WYEP 91.3 FM radio and the Pennsylvania Resources Council.

Celebrations begin at 6 a.m. when WYEP 91.3 FM’s Saturday Light Brigade broadcasts live from the aquarium. Local scout troops will lead visitors in making recycled crafts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other activities include a climbing wall, courtesy of Mountain Dreams International, recycling relay races, animal interactions and a magician.

The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium’s own Green Team will provide tips for earth-friendly living and will be stationed outside the aquarium. The Green Team is a special task force made up of zoo staff that work to make the zoo’s operations as environmentally friendly as possible.

Zoo staff also will give tours of the newly renovated Education and Administrative Center, highlighting the steps taken to make the new building as energy efficient as possible.

WYEP 91.3 FM members will be admitted free until 10 a.m. when they show their membership card or a copy of the Bugler Newsletter. After 10 a.m., WYEP members will receive $2 off of each member family with proper ID. Earth Day activities are included in zoo admission.
