Penn State Fayette has announced the Fall 2002 Cultural Events Series schedule. All events are open to the general public. The schedule is as follows:

– Wednesday, Aug. 28, “Olde Tyme Photos” in the J.L. Williams Building Caf’ from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The “Olde Tyme Photos” show, owned by Dan and Dodie Vande Vere, includes two time periods, Victorian and Old West, complete with props, back-drops and full costumes. It also uses a unique photo process, which enables participants to have a unique photograph with the quality and look of a photo taken close to the turn of the century.

– Monday, Sept. 9, Alain Nu at 7:30 p.m. in Swimmer Hall. Nu, a Washington-based mentalist, has performed for select audiences nationally and internationally, including a variety of noteworthy people such as former First Lady Barbara Bush, Vice President Al Gore and Princess Sarah Blint Sultan of Saudi Arabia. Having immersed himself in the art of magic his entire life, Nu is one of the most well-rounded “mystery-makers” in the world today and is the founder of the “Phoenix Gathering,” an annual specialized conference/retreat for professional magicians to contemplate their works from a creative or artistic standpoint. Nu lectures and performs all of the country for corporations, colleges and conventions. He is also a regular headlining performer at Caesars Place in Las Vegas. Mentalism, as practiced by Alain Nu, is a bewildering demonstration of the magic in our minds. At Penn State Fayette, Nu will attempt to defy the laws of natural science in a few controlled experiments involving psychology, physics and our limitless imagination.

– Tuesday, Oct. 1, Tom Teasley at 7:30 p.m. in Swimmer Hall. Teasley is an extremely versatile percussionist who has performed as a featured soloist and played in a variety of ensemble settings, including jazz and world music, chamber and symphonic orchestra. As a percussionist and composer of the duo Word Beat with singer/actor Charles Williams, Teasley’s musical colleges accompany Williams’ poetry readings by Langston Hughes and others. Teasley tours regularly and presents workshops often. According to Kathleen Moran, arts program specialist, “Tom Teasley instills a connection to the audience that many performers never achieve. The audience left with an experience etched in their memories-people are still talking about that show.”

– Thursday, Oct. 3, Peter Jordan at 7:30 p.m. in Swimmer Hall. In his suspenseful presentation, Jordan incorporates a gallery of shocking photos and video. While others invent tales of horror and parapsychology, writer Peter Jordan has spent more than 15 years investigating them, accumulating files on hundreds of chilling real-life encounters with poltergeist, haunted houses, possessions, UFOs, religious miracles, demonic possession, spirits and the hidden powers of the mind.

– Thursday, Oct. 24, Eric Mintel Quartet at 7:30 p.m. in Swimmer Hall.

The audience can enjoy a relaxing and elegant evening with Eric Mintel on the piano, Neil Wetzel playing saxophone, John Gaffney performing bass and Jeremy Berberian on drums as they play original music by Eric Mintel, new arrangements of jazz standards and new music from their new CD “Live!”
