Scottdale to sponsor annual Fall Festival
SCOTTDALE – Scottdale will host its annual Fall Festival Friday through Sunday, Sept. 20-22, in the downtown business district with gazebo park as its nucleus. This event has evolved into a family-oriented celebration showcasing the area’s talent, businesses, Victorian architectural treasures and its rich railroad and coal and coke history.
The festival committee has chosen “The Homecoming” as its permanent theme. This was done in honor of the many former residents who designate the third weekend in September as their official time to return to Scottdale for class reunions and family gatherings and also to attend this increasingly popular event. This event features three days of entertainment and offers other attractions such as children’s area, art show, costumed participants, ethnic foods, crafts and historical exhibits.

Saturday’s activities include a 5K/Race-Walk and noon parade followed by an antique car show on Sunday.
The 2002 program booklet will offer a brief glimpse into Scottdale’s recreational activities in yesteryear such as a visit to Lake Forest (Briercheck’s) swimming pool and picnic grounds and to Steiner’s Skating Rink.
Other highlighted popular past times include a journey to Louck’s Park with its bandstand and concerts and a trip to the Old Geyer Opera House – now Scottdale Showtime. Still another form of recreations revolved around the popular sport of baseball. A vivid account of Scottdale’s amazing role in the baseball world is described by local resident, Matthew Miller, in his book “Milltown Yank” currently on sale.
