2 min read

LEMONT FURNACE – The Down East Boys, a well-known gospel group from North Carolina, will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cove Run Free Methodist Church, which is located on Yauger Hollow Road in Lemont Furnace. For the past 15 years, the Down East Boys have traveled across the United States and Canada, gaining widespread recognition and acceptance.

During recent years, the quartet has participated in crusades in several states with Dr. Jim Wilson, Dr. Ralph Bell and Franklin Graham, all affiliates of the Billy Graham Association.

They have also worked with evangelists Kelly Green, Rick Stanley and Jay Strack. They have participated in a variety of events, ranging from state evangelism conferences to chapel services at NASCAR events.

Lead singer and manager Ricky Carden projects a powerful lead voice and an equally powerful desire to present the gopsel to audiences. Prior to joining the Down East Boys, Carden sang part-time with his family’s group for several years.

Wesley Anders, a tenor, joined the group in 2002. A native of Ashville, N.C., he began his career as tenor for a group based in South Carolina. Earlier this year, John Stilley, a baritone, joined the Down East Boys.

Stuart Cary, newest member of the Down East Boys, was discovered in Ruston, La. The 22-year-old man was raised in church and always had a desire to travel and sing gospel music.

For information about the concert, call the Rev. Roger Yeager, pastor, at 724-437-1050.
