Pittsburgh Symphony to present holiday concerts
PITTSBURGH – Celebrate the holiday season with the sounds of the PNC Pittsburgh Symphony Pops led by conductor Marvin Hamlisch, Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 20 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. All shows will be performed in Pittsburgh Symphony Heinz Hall in the heart of the Cultural District. Hamlisch brings his musical talent, wit and charm to this all new holiday production.
Pittsburgh Pops lovers can expect a joyous new spin on a Pittsburgh holiday tradition, featuring the world premiere of Marvin’s new holiday carol, “Take Me to Christmas Past,” written especially for these PNC Pittsburgh Symphony Holiday Pops concerts.
Also on the program are traditional holiday fare, including Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah, Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” Willson’s “It’s Beginning to Look A lot Like Christmas” and selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker.” Before and after the performance, concertgoers can enjoy the beauty of the magnificent Heinz Hall Christmas tree on display in the Grand Lobby and partake of holiday eggnog or Wassail.
