2 min read

PITTSBURGH – Returning for its fifth year, “Salute to Vienna,” comes to the Pittsburgh Symphony Heinz Hall at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, demonstrating once again, why it is the most successful New Year’s concert series in North America. The concert features the music of Johann Strauss Jr. with waltzes, polkas, and other dances plus overtures and songs from Viennese operettas.

Leading the symphony this year is Maestro Karl Sollak, renowned for his work with The Vienna Boys Choir and Vienna State Opera. Most recently, Sollak debuted in Japan conducting Placido Domingo in a Super Gala Concert in Tokyo.

Highlighting this year’s program are soprano Arpine Rahdjian, recent winner of the 21st International Hans Gabor Belvedere Voice Competition, and Otoniel Gonzaga, who has appeared in more than 30 opera houses and numerous music festivals around the world. In addition, members of the Hungarian National Ballet bring brilliant choreography and traditional costumes to the Pittsburgh Symphony Heinz Hall stage.

“Salute to Vienna” presents new artists and distinct programs each year to keep the experience fresh and new for our audiences,” said Attila Glatz, president of Attila Glatz Concert Promotions. “We are delighted with the growth of this tradition, and we are proud to be able to continue to bring the popular waltzes, polkas and marches of Johann Strass Jr. and his contemporaries to audiences across North America.”

Creating the magic from Vienna in 33 venues in North America, Attila Glatz Concert Productions captures the music, culture and phenomenon of a world-class event that has evolved into the largest, simultaneously produced New Year’s Day celebration on the continent.

Officially sponsored by the City of Vienna and inspired by the world famous New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, the program has played to sold-out shows since its inception seven years ago.
