Spruce Forest to host summer festival
GRANTSVILLE, Md. – The 25th annual Summer Festival & Quilt Show will be held at Spruce Forest Artisan Village in Grantsville, Md., Friday through Sunday, July 12-14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will be held rain or shine on the Old National Road, just east of Grantsville, and located adjacent to the historic Casselman Bridge, Penn Alps Restaurant & Crafts Shop and the Elliott House Victorian Inn & Chocolates Shop.
The quilt show will be held inside the 1903 Village Church on campus, which offers visitors air-conditioned comfort while browsing through the juried quilts and accessories on display. Jane Benson, quilt show chairman, and her assistants will greet quilt lovers from all over the area, offering opportunities to take chances on a hand-stitched quilt donated by Four Seasons Stitchery and finished with prairie points, and chances to sign up for door prize certificates that will be mailed to more than 20 winners.
Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded prior to the show, and prize-winning quilts will be on display with some available for sale.
Another highlight of this festival is the expert craftsmanship, artistry and culinary skills of nearly 100 artisans, musicians, storytellers and food vendors, who will be at work amidst the 80-year-old spruce forest.
Some of the mediums that will be demonstrated throughout the festival will include pottery, quilting, jewelry making, blacksmithing, herbs and flowers, soap making, mosaics, stained glass, slate painting, basket weaving, spinning, weaving, woodworking, bird sculpting, heirloom teddy bears, needlework, apple butter making, tying flies, counted cross stitch, calligraphy, Ukranian egg making, knitting, wood turning, photography, tatting, tole painting, furniture making, oils and watercolors, Swedish weaving, rug braiding, printing, sewing, painting gourds and much more. Also, festival artisans will have their works for sale during the entire festival. Food will also be available.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under are admitted free of charge.
