‘Tribute to Frank Sinatra’ to kick off Storey Square Summer Lunch Series

The Storey Square Summer Lunch Series will begin on Friday, June 14, and will run every Friday until Aug. 30. Each week the park, which is located between the State Theatre Center for the Arts and the Murphy Building on Main Street, will highlight a musical performer and an area restaurant from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The series begins with Dave Salera’s “Tribute to Frank Sinatra” on June 14. Lunch will be available from Caileigh’s Restaurant of Uniontown.

The Sammy Bill Orchestra sets the park swinging on Friday, June 21, followed the next week by Dutch Treat, a barbershop quartet.

The casts of two popular musicals being presented by the West Virginia Public Theatre will entertain in the park, singing and dancing to songs from “Footloose” on July 5 and “The Music Man” on Aug. 9.

Fred Adams, a folk singer and guitarist will perform on July 12 and The Mickey Sharp Trio, a jazz ensemble, will play July 19. On July 26, the VFW Concert Band will perform.

Harold Betters, a very popular jazz performer, will kick off the month of August, performing on Aug. 2 as Becker’s Shadyside Inn provides lunch.

On Aug. 16, The Undertones, a high school a cappella group, will amaze the audience with doo-wop music and popular songs performed in perfect harmony.

Aug. 23 features The Squiffy Cats, a popular local band that performs an electic mix of pop, rock and jazz.

Closing out the Summer Lunch Series is Tom Pipak, a folk singer, with food provided by Eddie’s Tavern on Aug. 30.

Each week, lunch is served by a local restaurant and is available for about $5.

Restaurants participating this year include Caileigh’s of Uniontown, Penn State Dairy, Becker’s Shadyside Inn, Lil’ Red Riding Hood Caf’ and Latte Express, The Boston Bearery, Hot Diggity Dogs, Titlow Tavern and Grille and Eddie’s Tavern. Restaurants begin serving at 11:30 a.m. each week.

In case of inclement weather, the State Theatre Lobby is used as an alternate venue during the lunch series.
