‘Forever Plaid’ to bring ’50s to Morgantown
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia Public Theatre (WVPT) announces the first production of its 18th season, the musical “Forever Plaid.” The musical is directed and choreographed by Bob Durkin with musical direction by Camille Villapando.
The show will run Tuesday through Sunday, June 18-23. Stephen Ward Billiesen, Scott Pearson, Robert Rokicki and David Villella appear as the Plaids, a vocal group reminiscent of the 1950s.
“Forever Plaid” tells the story of a quartet of high school friends whose dreams and lives were cut short while they were still in high school, but who return to earth for one final performance.
The Plaids’ act consists of nostalgic, 1950s-era songs like “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Moments to Remember,” “Shangri-La,” “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” and even a musical tribute to their idol, Perry Como.
Director/choreographer Bob Durkin has worked nationally and internationally in such shows as “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Hello, Dolly” and “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”
“Forever Plaid” was written and originally directed and choreographed by Stuart Ross with musical continuity supervision and arrangements by James Raitt. It was originally produced by Gene Wolsk in New York in 1990.
