Rock the Park to offer teen activities

2 min read

The Fayette County Youth Network will sponsor the third annual Rock the Park event from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Marshall Park, which is located near the Uniontown Public Library and Phil’s Corner Store. Free admission is offered to the event, which will feature activities and prizes for youth and teens.

Some of the activities include:

– A rock wall.

– Human bowling, where the player gets put into a round cage and rolled down a lane into huge bowling pins.

– An obstacle course, where two players race to see who finishes the course first.

– A bungee run, also known as the human slingshot, where two people are hooked up and run in opposite directions to see who is the first to lose footing and fly back. The event is safe because a huge inflated wall is placed between the two players.

– The joust gladiator game where two players standing on platforms try to knock each other off with big foam jousting sticks.

– A three-on-three basketball tournament, which has three different divisions: one for girls; one for junior school high boys; and one for senior high school boys.

From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., free hot dogs, soda and snacks will be provided to all of the children.

A concert begins at 5 p.m., featuring Yancy, a female soloist based out of Oklahoma, and Trial of Altars, a band from Westminster, Md., who has been compared to Hootie and the Blowfish.

Every hour, free T-shirts CDs and Kennywood tickets will be given away. Everyone, who registers at the information tent when they arrive, will be eligible to win a prize.

Rock the Park is a $7,000 event that is paid for by donations from local businesses, including the Herald-Standard, Four Star Pizza and the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort as well as donations from area residents.

Faith Assembly of God, Third Presbyterian, Cherry Tree Alliance and Great Bethel Baptist churches worked together to plan Rock the Park, which has continued to grow each year.

“The purpose of Rock the Park is to provide quality entertainment to the teens of southwestern Pennsylvania,” said Jason Lamer, youth pastor at Faith Assembly of God church.

“It’s just a chance to meet their needs and to have fun.”
