The Poverty Neck Hillbillies will perform a benefit concert from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Divito Park in Leisenring. All of the proceeds will benefit the Connellsville Area School District’s hockey program. Stonee Ridge will be the opening act. The doors will open at 4 p.m. Tickets are only $5 for general admission, and children under 6 are admitted free of charge. Anyone, who purchases an advanced ticket, will receive a chance to win a gas grill. Tickets are on sale at the following locations, including Divito Park, Miller’s Grocery Store in Normalville, G&D Store in Melcroft, The Smart Shopper in Dunbar and at Palmer’s Tavern, Muzzy’s Place, Schmidt’s Tire and The Dump Restaurant in Connellsville. The Mickey Sharp Trio will be playing Friday in Becker’s Shadyside Restaurant lounge from 7 to 10 p.m. The performance will feature easy listening music with Uniontown’s own Mickey Sharp on keyboard, Kenny Mills on guitar, and Mark Smith on drums, with no cover charge. For oldies lovers, Shadyside Restaurant will be hosting on Saturday an oldies dinner/dance by Jeff Allen of Power 104 FM. A Spaghetti Dinner will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas Social Center in Footedale. The event is sponsored by the Daughters of Charity and will benefit Rendu Services. Tickets can be purchased at Grandy’s Pizza, Esquire Barber Shop, St. Thomas/St. Procopius parish office, Rendu Services at the Laurel Mall office or Salem Hill Lounge. Phantom Cruisers will present “Cruisin’ in the Park” at Luzerne Park in Brownsville from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The registration fee is $6. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars. Prizes will include 15 trophies and one largest car club trophy. The D.J. will be Midnight Express. Other events will include a 50/50 drawing, food and games. Laurel Valley Corvette Club will present “Vette Together 2002 – All Corvette Cruise” on Saturday at Speedy Meedy’s on Route 119 cross from the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Uniontown Senior Citizen’s Monthly Dance “23rd Anniversary Moonlight and Roses’ will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47, West Main Street, Uniontown, with Dave Dahl’s Orchestra performing. Square, round, line and other dancing will be featured as well as refreshments and door prizes.
Classic Car Cruise will be held at the Arctic Delite, Route 51 three miles north of Uniontown, from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the Fayette County chapter of the American Cancer Society. Special notice to dash plaque collectors: A wooden plaque will be given to any participant who has collected at least four dash plaques. A grand prize trophy for the season will also be awarded. Three quilting workshops will be presented by artist/educator Susan Calderone in conjunction with her “Small Show of Small Quilts,” now on display at 64 Crayons Cultural Center, Third Floor, Thompson House, 815 Water St., Brownsville. Trained at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Cooper Union in New York City, and the Manhattan School of Visual Arts, Calderone teaches adult courses in quilt making at local community colleges and for a wide range of social groups. Her introductory workshop at 64 Crayons will be free for all participants from 1 until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25. She will follow with Tuesday afternoon workshops on July 9 and 30, also from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a fee of $10 each or $15 for both July sessions. An exhibit entitled “The Human Condition” will be held through Saturday at the Greensburg Art Center Gallery, which is located along Todd School Road in Greensburg. The opening reception will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. today. It is free and open to the public. The exhibit will feature paintings, drawings and sculpture depicting the physical and emotional aspects of humankind. Many of these works by members of the Greensburg Art Club were inspired by evening figure drawing sessions held at the art center on the last Monday of each month. The 43rd Three Rivers Arts Festival will open Pittsburgh’s summer season with exhibitions that manipulate the natural world, new collaborative projects, new artist market initiatives, visual arts exhibitions, an enlarged family area and a world-class performance schedule. The festival will open at noon today and will run through Sunday. Festival hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily for all indoor exhibits; noon to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday for artists market and pavilions; noon to 9:30 p.m. daily for all performances and Food Court; and noon to 7 p.m. daily for children’s area, which has been renamed the family area. Hoe-down round and square dancing, slow dancing, line dancing and clogging will be held on the following dates: Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Ohiopyle Community Center in Ohiopyle; and today from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Arthurdale Center Hall in Arthurdale, W.Va. The Allegany County Historical Society, 218 Washington St., Cumberland, Md., will be offering two historic tour series this summer.
The tour, “Rooftops & Rumors,” will be offered on Saturday, and on July 13, and Aug. 10 at 3:30 p.m. Participants board a bus at Canal Place with a costumed docent to tour the Historic District and the Gordon-Roberts House. The two-hour tour explores what politicians, artists and a circus-ax thrower have in common. Enjoy the beautiful architecture of Washington Street and a tour of the 1867 Gordon-Roberts House Museum. Participants enjoy the house blend tea and cookies. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students 6-18 and free under age 6. The three-hour tour, “Tavern Travels,” offered on Saturday, July 27, Aug. 17, and Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. explores the National Road from Cumberland to Frostburg. Imagine the inns and taverns along the way. Stop and pay the toll at the TollHouse. Tour the collection of carriages, carts, and wagons at the Thrasher Carriage Museum, and stop in the taproom for ale and johnnycakes. A costumed docent leads this three-hour tour of discovery of the first generation to “rock and roll” (1800’s style). Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for students 6-18 and free under six.

The Moonlighters Band will perform in the Diamond in Ligonier at 7 p.m. Sunday for the fifth concert of the season. This 12-piece band specializes in a variety of the big band sounds such as Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey.
The Rev. Audrey Bell of the Stahlstown United Methodist Church Charge will deliver the invocation. In the event of rain the event will be held inside the Town Hall auditorium. Otherwise it will be at the bandstand. Concerts are free but donations are accepted.
Compass Inn in Laughlintown is celebrating its 30th anniversary and opened for the summer season. A 90-minute tour of the restored 1799 stagecoach stop includes the restored inn, reconstructed cookhouse, blacksmith shop and barn. All of the buildings are authentically furnished with period pieces. Special weekends are planned throughout the summer, beginning with Children’s Weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The museum is located along Route 30 in Laughlintown about three miles east of Ligonier. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. For more information, call 724-238-4983.
