Hopwood to host parade during National Road Festival on May 18
HOPWOOD – The third annual Hopwood Village Parade celebrating the National Road Festival will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18. The parade will begin at the National City Bank and proceed on Route 40 to the Bennington Road intersection.
Amvets Post 103 color guard will lead the marchers, which will include the Laurel Highlands Senior and Junior High School Boards, groups from Hutchinson and Kennedy elementary schools, the Hopwood United Methodist Church, Fayette County Canine Search and Rescue and other community organizations. Miss Hopwood 2002 Julia Hayden will be honored.
The parade will be one of many activities in the village. The dedication of the Historical Gateway markers, and the Amvets Post 103 Memorial Monument will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the arrival of the wagon train, which will stop for lunch.
Following the parade, a variety of entertaining activities will take place at Seiler Square, including an authentic Tent Revival.
Food, sidewalk sales and the annual Hopwood Garden Club Plant Sale will highlight the day’s events.
An old-time doubleheader baseball game will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the South Union Recreational Park at Hutchinson. The Laurel Highlands Senior High School Jazz Band entertain between games, and refreshments will be available.
