History tours slated WASHINGTON – Free storytelling strolling history tours of Washington are set for Saturday and Sunday. Interested individuals, families and groups should meet in front of Citizens Library, which is located at the corner of South College and East Wheeling streets, at 1:30 or 3:30 p.m.
Local history buffs Bill Keene, John Leggett and Joe Thomas will guide walkers on a loop around Washington, sharing the history and interesting stories of the many landmarks and places of significance in Washington.
Each tour will take approximately two hours, with a rest stop and water break halfway at the LeMoyne House. Highlights of the tour will include the campus of Washington and Jefferson College, the B&O Railroad station, the Pennsylvania Railroad station, the courthouse, the Bradford House and the LeMoyne House, Pennsylvania’s first National Landmark of the Underground Railroad.

Although the walking tours are free, donations will be accepted to support the society’s education program.
Quilt competition set
SCOTTDALE – West Overton Museums, located between Scottdale and Mount Pleasant on Route 819, announces the beginning of its 2002 Quilt Competition, a southwestern Pennsylvania exhibition, which will be on display in the distillery from Tuesday, May 28, through Sunday, June 30.
Judged quilts from the Laurel Highlands and surrounding regions will be displayed in full view among the museum’s historical exhibits. The “Challenge Quilt” contest is again being featured sponsored by Kate and Becca’s Quilt Patch.
The 2002 quilt judge was Linda McCuean. Admission, which includes a tour of West Overton Museums, is $8 for adults and $7 for members.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Monday. For additional information, call 724-887-7910.
