‘The Others’ will send chills up spines of home viewers

By Lou Gaul Calkins Media Film Critic 3 min read

A supernatural sleeper hit seems guaranteed to generate chills for those who watch it at home. Magnificent ‘Memento’

A so-so ‘Shiri’

The trick to enjoying “Shiri,” which features some unsettling and exciting action scenes, is just to sit back and go along for the ride without asking too many questions or expecting too much.

A silver anniversary for Pooh

The production features Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood, including Tigger, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Eeyore and Piglet. Writer Alan Alexander Milne created the characters in his original children’s tales, which first appeared in 1924.Trivia Note: Pooh started out as “Edward Bear.”

The change of name came when the real Christopher Robin, Milne’s son, became an admirer of a black bear whose real name was Winnie at the London Zoo. When Christopher Robin decided to give “Edward Bear” a new name, he joined “Winnie” to “Pooh” (the name of a swan he had once known) and a star of children’s books and toys was born.
