WCCC to host art exhibit featuring national pieces
YOUNGWOOD – A big giant head painted on canvas, a hobo sitting on the railroad tracks and an 8-foot-tall sculpture of light with bright yellow hair. Those are some of the artwork that will be featured during the 2002 Westmoreland Art Nationals. Opening on Saturday, the juried exhibition features visual art of all media including sculpture, painting and photography.
Two accomplished jurors, Sergio Soave and David A. Edgar, were present to select a range of exceptional pieces, which represent a diverse group of talented visual artists.
In its expansive history, the Westmoreland Art Nationals has become fertile ground for local and national artists to bring their voice to southwestern Pennsylvania.
It has become an integral part of the region’s culture, which allows talented individuals to express their thoughts visually to a community.
Artists are given a public venue to display their works and a forum, where their endeavors are given the chance for meaningful consideration by their peers. The 2002 Westmoreland Art Nationals provides this opportunity.
Out of the number of artists chosen to show their work in this year’s exhibition, eight awards will be presented on Saturday at Westmoreland County Community College, which is located in Youngwood, to those whose work exceeds even the best standards. Works, which receive awards, will be displayed for the duration of the exhibition.
The public is invited to broaden their horizons at the 2002 Westmoreland Art Nationals from Saturday through Sunday, June 16.
The exhibition will then travel to the 28th annual Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival, which will be held at Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg.
The exhibition at Twin Lakes Park will be on display from July 4-7 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Admission is free for the art exhibits that will be featured at both locations.
