MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Tickets are now on sale for the West Virginia Pubic Theatre’s (WVPT) 2002 family holiday production, “The Wizard of Oz.” Public performances will be held Dec. 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. Performances will be presented at the East Fairmont High School Theatre because of the ongoing renovation of the Creative Arts Center Concert Theatre. Special matinees for local students and teachers will be presented weekdays at 10 a.m.

WVPT will bring a musical favorite to life on the stage. Kansas farm girl, Dorothy, longs to leave her humdrum life. Caught up in a tornado, Dorothy’s house lands in Munchkinland, which is “over the rainbow.” Dorothy immediately wants to go home, but to do so, she must journey to the magical land of Oz, where only the great Wizard can help her.

On her journey down the yellow brick road, Dorothy befriends The Scarecrow, The Tin Woodsman and The Cowardly Lion, who join her in her quest to visit the Wizard.

The stage version of “The Wizard of Oz” features popular songs from the movie, including “Over the Rainbow”, “Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.” The stage version also features the famous “Jitterbug” number, which was cut from the movie and seen only in grainy outtakes. East Fairmont High is easily accessible from Interstate 79, just west of the interstate off the Kingmont Road exit. Tickets cost $10 to $21 and may be reserved by calling the WVPT box office at 304-599-6785 or toll-free at 1-877-999-WVPT.
