PSO performs at Cal U

2 min read

CALIFORNIA – One of many special nights on the Cal U campus is when the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra makes its annual visit. This year’s performance took place on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Steele Auditorium. During this special performance, concert-goers were treated to the world premiere of a music selection composed by Nancy Galbraith for California University’s Sesquicentennial.

The work was based on the bronze art creation that graces the World Cultures Building, “The Ascent of Humanity.” Lucas Richman, resident conductor, directed the orchestra for the piece entitled “De profundis ad lucem.”

Making this memorable event a reality was Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, who sponsored the performing arts program with a $10,000 donation.

“We are very grateful for the generous support we have received from Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania,” said Howard Goldstein, Cal U vice president for university development.

“Columbia’s gift helps our university and local communities improve their lives. Enjoying the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra right on our campus is something we are proud to be able to provide.”

Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, with local headquarters in Pittsburgh, serves more than 389,000 customers in 27 counties. It is one of the 10 energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NJ). NiSource distribution companies serve 3.7 million natural gas and electric customers primarily in nine states. “Please accept our best wishes for continued success at your great institution,” said Robert Boulware, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania director of communications. “While this is a financial contribution, we value your ‘human energy’ and desire to partner with us to make our communities a great place in which to live and work.”
