Greensboro restaurant to sponsor Christmas parade for community
GREENSBORO – The Ice Plant Restaurant located in Greensboro will sponsor the second annual Christmas Parade at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Greene County community. Lisa Rumble-Miller, owner of The Ice Plant, initially started the parade to recognize the youth and youth organizations of the community while celebrating the holiday season. Additionally, Rumble-Miller looks to the students of Bobtown Elementary School to participate in the holiday activities. Students in grades kindergarten through fourth participate in the annual Christmas Coloring Contest.
Each grade is issued a particular picture to color and three winners are chosen from each level. The pictures are on display at the restaurant, and prizes are awarded the day of the parade.
This year, fifth-grade students will write an essay surrounding a holiday theme and the sixth-grade class will be making ornaments to display on the Christmas tree at The Ice Plant.
The students at Bobtown Elementary also vote on a boy and girl to represent each of their classes in the parade while a Christmas prince and princess represents kindergarten and a Junior Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas represent the sixth grade.
Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are the hit of the parade being pulled in their horse and buggy. After the parade, the children meet with Santa for treats and pictures in front of the fireplace at The Ice Plant. Mapletown High School Band participates as well as many Greene County politicians and organizations.
Rumble-Miller resides in Uniontown with her husband, Curt, and children Alexandra and Jonathan. However, she was born and raised in the Greensboro area and has passion for improving the community.
The Ice Plant Restaurant also sponsors many other activities throughout the year.
Greensboro was basically wiped off the map after the 1985 Election Day Flood, and Rumble-Miller is trying to bring life, recognition and activities for the children and the residents back to the community.
“The most important are the children,” she said. “However, many people do not realize the variety of businesses in Greensboro, and we are still growing. We have convenient stores, auto body shops, beauty salons, a clinic, a bookstore and most recently a beautiful Bed & Breakfast.
Although the Ice Plant sponsors many major events, the restaurant always invites non-profit organizations to participate to try to raise funds for themselves.
Greensboro Fire Department, local churches the local Head Start, Greene County Special Olympics and Greene County American Cancer Society have participated in the past.
“Without the constant support of my husband, family and outstanding staff, it would be very difficult to accomplish so many wonderful things for the community,” she said.
The Ice Plant and parade committee would like to invite anyone in a club, organization, band or float to participate in the parade. For more information, call The Ice Plant at 724-943-4324.
