AAFC to hold auditions
SCOTTDALE – Actors and Artists of Fayette County announced the audition dates for the December musical “Mame.” The auditions will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Scottdale Showtime Theatre in Scottdale.
AAFC is seeking 30 male and female actors age 16 and older. There is one role for a 10-year old male. Auditions consist of singing and a cold reading. Those who audition should bring a prepared musical selection. An accompanist will be provided. Accompaniment CD’s or tapes are not accepted.
“Mame” was first produced at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City on May 24, 1966, and ran for 1, 508 performances. The production starred Beatrice Arthur as Vera Charles and Angela Landsbury in the title role. The musical, with book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, is based on the novel by Patrick Dennis and the play “Auntie Mame” by Lawrence and Lee. In the story, Auntie Mame adopts Patrick and tries to become as much of a mother as she knows how. She tries to get close to Patrick and make him live his life well. Songs such as “Mame”, “We Need a Little Christmas”, and “My Best Girl” are just a few of the musical numbers that make the entire musical memorable. “Mame” is being co-directed by Marlena Solomon and Ron Bronson with Brad Henry as music director.
