Trinity church to kick off recital series with Oct. 25 performance
The Fall Recital Series of Trinity Presbyterian Church, corner of Morgantown and West Fayette streets, Uniontown, will begin with an organ recital by its organist and music director, Jason J. Keefer, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. Keefer will present a program featuring works by French and German masters ranging from the 17th through 20th centuries. His program will consist of works by Reger, Mendelssohn, Bach, Guilmant, Durufle, Langlais and Widor.
Currently completing the master of sacred music/organ performance program at Duquesne University, Keefer studies organ with Dr. John Walker. Additionally he has studied organ repertoire with Dr. David Craighead and organ improvisation with Dr. Ann Labounsky.
Other teachers have included Anne Musser Honeywell and Edgar Highberger. He has also coached with French organist, Pierre Pincemaille and Jean-Pierre Leguary from Notre Dame Cathedral.
Keefer is a 1999 graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y., where he holds a bachelor of science degree in music education with organ as his performance instrument. As an undergraduate, he served as worship coordinator and accompanist for the chapel music program and organ accompanist for the college concert chorale.
Keefer’s solo organ and accompanying engagements have taken him throughout the state of New York and New England regions. He has also played recitals at the Bruton Parish of Colonial Williamsburg, Va., as well as on the noon-day recital series at the Duquesne University Chapel, and more locally at the Asbury Methodist and Trinity Presbyterian churches of Uniontown.
Since 1999, Keefer has been director of the adult chancel choir, two adult bell choirs, a children’s chime choir, a children’s choir and has participated in the Wednesday after-school program, in addition to overseeing the church recital series.
