Writing workshop slated in Ligonier
LIGONIER – On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Ligonier Valley Writers will present “Bits and Pieces – A Short-Fiction Writing Workshop” at the Ligonier Valley Library. Instructors Chauna Craig and Tony Farrington will each discuss aspects of the short story. Craig’s topic is “And the Queen Died of Grief: Writing Tiny Stories with Big Impact.”
She will teach the groups about “flash” and other very short stories.
Farrington’s topic is “From the Ground Up: Building Your Story Out of Fragments.”
One way to write a story is to build it out of smaller pieces. Fragments can help you concentrate on a larger task.
They can also help you overcome writers’ block or establish a more complex theme.
Both instructors will lead exercises designed to illustrate their topics and will also discuss marketing and publishing of short fiction. Cost for the workshop, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. and run until 3:30 p.m., is $10.
Lunch will be “on your own” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Partial funding for this program comes from the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), a partnership between 13 regional arts organizations and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. State government funding for the arts comes through an annual appropriation by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance.
