Mustang Sally to bring wild show to Uniontown

2 min read

Mustang Sally, a Nashville-based band featuring six talented women, will ride into Uniontown on Friday, Oct. 25, when they will perform a wild country music show at Mahoney’s Bar & Grill, 58 E. Fayette St. Ruff Creek, a local band, will be the opening act for Mustang Sally. The popular all-girl band will bring a stage full of musical instruments to the Uniontown show, as well as hard-hitting songs and a recipe that has been drawing crowds from coast to coast, according to the band’s press release.

The band was created more than four years ago when drummer Lisa Romeo began putting together a band for an All Female Jam Night at Nashville’s legendary Hall of Fame Lounge.

From a vast pool of talent in Nashville, Romeo assembled an all-girl band. They soon branched out from Music City to play other towns and other clubs. Mustang Sally now plays more than 200 shows per year in 37 states and nine countries.

At first, Romeo said many talent agents would book Mustang Sally for the novelty of an all-girl band, but their solid performances would earn the band a return engagement.

“I think that individually and collectively we just want to be respected as musicians and entertainers, even though it may be a little tough to get around the stereotype at first,” Romeo said

The band features Debbie Johnson of Springfield, Mo., who plays bass guitar and sings. Playing keyboards and singing vocals is Becky Priest of Hubbard, Texas. Lynn Campbell of Te Awamatu, New Zealand, handles lead guitar. The wild one playing fiddle, mandolin, saxophone and guitar is Renae Truex of Moundsville, W.Va. Romeo of Omaha, Neb., plays drums and adds harmony vocals.

The band has played many high-profile dates, such as opening for George Jones, Lee Ann Rimes, Aaron Tippin, John Anderson, Mark Chestnut, Wade Hayes, Exile, Confederate Railroad and others.

Mustang Sally has become a popular act on the rodeo, fair and festival circuit. The girls spend a lot of time on the road, traveling from California to Florida and New Jersey to North Dakota. This year, they will be taking their country show to the Virgin Islands and Europe.
