Brownsville gallery to showcase new art exhibit
BROWNSVILLE – “The New Millennium: Emerging Artists from the California University of Pennsylvania Department of Art and Design” will hang in the Ballroom Gallery at 64 Crayons Cultural Center, Thompson House, 815 Water St., Brownsville, through Saturday, Nov. 9. The multi-media exhibit, organized by art and design professor R. Scott Lloyd, features a mix of media and techniques by 17 emerging student artists.
“This exhibition of freshman through senior work represents only a sampling of the tremendous wealth of creative resources in our emerging artists of Pennsylvania,” Lloyd said. “It also demonstrates an increased emphasis on the exhibition of the students’ creative work.” Lloyd, who recently returned to the California faculty after a year at Carlow College, where he worked extensively with art education, has taken on the task of arranging art exhibits, which will include outside artists as well as local talent.
“The New Millennium: Emerging Artists” show at 64 Crayons includes a range of print techniques, pen and pencil drawings, oil paintings, mixed media selections, and sculpture. Works were submitted by Jennifer Adamson, Amber Aughenbaugh, Emily Jane Beach, Carita Bottinelli, Miriam Fiedel, Michelle Giorgiana, Emily Goff, Catherine A. Hensel, Brian Honan, Judy Hopson, Jessi Kutruffis, Caroline Rice, Kristine Sacco, Brandon Scott, Regis Turocy, Julie Yankovich, and Adam Zyski.
“In terms of the number of artists, this is the largest show we’ve brought in to 64 Crayons to date,” said Fred Lapisardi, the center’s director. “We’ve averaged a show a month for over a year and a half now, and recently we designated a room on the second floor of Thompson House as a consignment space where some of these artists offer their work for sale on a regular basis. We’re currently considering opening a second room as an outlet for creative work by California University students.”
The gallery at 64 Crayons Cultural Center is open to the public without charge Tuesday and Fridays from noon until 4 p.m., Wednesday and Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m. and most Saturdays from noon until 8 p.m. Group presentations may be arranged either with or without lecture through Geezers’ Literary Book Shop at 724-785-9010 or by e-mail at Geezersbks@worldnet.att.net.
