Pittsburgh Zoo to offer art contest for children
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium and Lazarus Department stores are inviting kids ages 5 to 12 years to participate in the Baby Elephant Art Contest. The art contest is part of the zoo’s annual Lazarus Elephant Day Celebration, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the zoo. Two lucky winners will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of five people to meet the baby elephants.
Kids can show their creativity by submitting an art piece that illustrates a “Baby Elephant in the Wilderness” to the children’s department of any Pittsburgh area Lazarus store by Saturday. Entries must by 8.5-by-11 inches flat and can be of any medium (pencil, crayon, paint, etc.) The child’s name and age must be printed on the front of the piece, along with address and phone number on the back. Artwork cannot be returned.
One winner from each age will be selected for display in the elephant barn. Two grand prize winners, one from ages 5-8 and one from ages 9-12 will be selected. Grand prize winners will receive a behind-the-scenes visit with the baby elephants for five people. Winners will be announced during the Lazarus Elephant Day Celebration.
