Tickets for the first concert of the Asbury Festival Recital Series will go on sale, beginning Monday. Non-subscription tickets will be available at the Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce office, West Main Street in Uniontown; Judy’s Do Re Me Music Store at 70 S. Beeson Blvd., Uniontown; Amend’s Jewelry in the Uniontown Mall; and White Picket Fence in Hopwood for the season opener concert on Sunday, Oct. 13, featuring concert organist Gordon Turk.

Turk is the resident organist of the historic auditorium in Ocean Grove, N.J., where he is founder and artistic director of the Summer Stars Chamber Music Festival. Turk holds award prizes for his excellence in the performance of the music of J.S. Bach and was a winner in the national improvisation competition of the American Guild of Organists.

As a critically acclaimed concert organist, Turk has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

He has also appeared in concert as orchestral conductor, choral conductor and composer. He has made numerous television appearances in concert and has appeared as a recitalist at national and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists.

Turk is a graduate of the famed Curtis Institute of Music and holds advanced music degrees and honors from the Manhattan School of Music.

In January 2000, Turk’s composition “Elegy” for string orchestra and oboe was performed on live television in Japan. He has made two concert tours in Japan, playing 14 recitals and recently played in prestigious organ festivals in Switzerland and the first U.S. Organ Festival in the Ukraine.

He will make his first concert tour of Russia this season, playing with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and in other Russian cities.

Tickets for the Gordon Turk recital will cost $12 and must be purchased in advance. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

Ticket holders will be admitted into the Asbury sanctuary 45 minutes before concert time. There is no reserved seating. Asbury Church is located at the corner of South Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown.

Its sanctuary is handicapped accessible.

There is still time to purchase four and two concert subscription packages for the recital series at considerable savings. Call 724-557-1119 to purchase a season subscription.

Remaining concerts include Saint-Saens’ “Christmas Oratorio,” sung by the Asbury Festival Choir with guest soloists, famed Crystal Cathedral organist Fred Swann and Mozart’s “Requiem” by the Festival Choir and Greater Uniontown Chorale.
