Cal U to sponsor all-dance production
CALIFORNIA – California University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Theatre and Dance and the Mon Valley Dance Council will present the Spring Gala at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 10-12, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13. The gala is under the artistic direction of Donna Marovic-Anthony and Dr. Richard Helldobler.
An all-dance production, the Spring Gala will feature original dance compositions ranging in style from classical and contemporary ballet to jazz and hip-hop.
Dancers will be accompanied by a wide variety of music in this concert.
Performances will be set to the Latin beat of Ricky Martin, as well as to the classical melodies in “Don Quizote.”
“Etta” blends ballet and blues to the smooth sounds of Etta James, while “India” captures the cultural essence of a far-off place.
The Spring Gala showcases the talents of Cal U faculty and students, as well as community members and guest artists.
On the program for the gala are pieces choreographed by Marovic-Anthony, Dr. Rebecca Hess, Kenneth Nickel, Raphael Lopez-Maldonado and Helldobler, who will also perform in several works.
