Friendship Hill site to host concert
Point Marion – The National Park Service will present an afternoon spring concert performed by the Albert Gallatin South Middle School Band on Sunday, May 4. “This is a great opportunity for our area youth to showcase their talents in a beautiful setting,” said Interim Park Superintendent Keith Newlin.
The spring concert will begin at 2 p.m. on the north lawn of the Gallatin mansion.
The band will play selections of patriotic music for this all-American concert.
The public is asked to bring folding chairs or blankets for their comfort while listening to the performance.
There will be no rain date in case of inclement weather.
This is the fifth year for this concert at Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Last fall the Albert Gallatin Senior High School Cross Country Team began using the park as their home course as well.
“We love to work with the schools and have these young people come out and appreciate the park,” Tom Markwardt, spokesman for the National Park Service. “It’s wonderful to see how proud the students are to have this national treasure right here in their own back yard.”
Friendship Hill National Historic Site preserves the accomplishments of Albert Gallatin, a noted but forgotten political leader of the Jeffersonian Era in American History.
It is located three miles north of Point Marion on Route 166. The visitor center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
