‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’ to take stage in Scottdale

2 min read

SCOTTDALE – Actors and Artists of Fayette County will present “A Visit from St. Nicholas” at 7:30 p.m. today and 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the fourth show in Scottdale Showtime’s Fall Family Showcase. Suitable for the entire family, the show ends with a visit from Santa who will have a small gift for all the children who attend the production. In 1822, Clement Clark Moore, a noted poet and professor, wrote “A Visit From St Nicholas.”

Director Laurie London of McClellandtown has selected a talented group of actors and crewmembers to bring the lively story of the famous poem’s origins to life.

London’s son Marc of Uniontown, former D.J. of “London’s Morning Mayhem” on WVCS, plays the role of Moore. He has appeared in several productions at Scottdale and in the area.

Maritha DePiazza of Uniontown plays Moore’s wife. Maritha, who recently returned to the area, appeared in dinner-theater musicals and melodramas while living in Alaska. Tyler Rockwell of McClellandtown portrays the part of Harry, the guest, who persuades Moore to give his poem to the public. Rockwell is a junior at Albert Gallatin High School. Moore’s children, Margaret, Benjamin and Charity, are played by Annie Broardwater of Mill Run, Andrew Bayura of Scottdale and Kiersten Puchi of Connellsville. All three children have performed in school and/or church productions.

Michael McGinley has designed a unique set that includes a fireplace with a chimney large enough for Santa to come down. Sarah McGinley will serve as assistant technical director and Jim Rolla is stage manager.
