Country-pop trio Chandler to appear in first feature film
Triplets Melissa Matrazzo, Stephanie Lauffer and Kristin Semenko of the western Pennsylvania country-pop trio Chandler will appear in the 20th Century Fox feature film “Down With Love,” scheduled for nationwide release in April 2003. They spent three days at Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles last August filming their scene, in which they play Brazilian spies known as the Bossa Nova Triplets, each of whom receives a kiss from Ewan McGregor as he departs their helicopter.
The sisters flew to L.A. with only a general understanding of the film’s plot, and no clue they would be interacting with the Golden Globe-nominated actor.
“We had no idea until the day we started filming that we’d be kissing Ewan McGregor,” Stephanie said. “He was a complete gentleman, very helpful and patient, and had a wonderful sense of humor. It was one of the highlights of my life. For three girls who love movies, it was a lot of fun.”
“Down With Love” is an homage to the Doris Day-Rock Hudson romantic comedies of the 1960s.
Its stars, in addition to McGregor, include Renee Zellweger, David Hyde Pierce, Sarah Paulson and Tony Randall. The film is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring It On”) and produced by Bruce Cohen and Dan Jinks (“American Beauty.”)
“Down With Love” is generating a buzz as one of the most anticipated films of the spring. The scene between McGregor and the ladies of Chandler was featured on a recent broadcast of “Entertainment Tonight.”
This marks the first foray into the film world for the triplets, who spent much of last year on the road, highlighted by a 60-show tour with Kenny Rogers.
During the past few years, Chandler has earned a reputation as one of the finest vocal groups in western Pennsylvania.
They sold more than 1,000 copies of their independent release “Through the Night,” and they have opened for such notables as Toby Keith, Alabama and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Chandler performs frequently in western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, and they are currently filling out their performance schedule for summer 2003.
