‘The Fantasticks’ to bring longest-running musical to Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Musical Theater will present “The Fantasticks” Tuesday through Sunday, Feb. 18-23, at the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. The world’s longest-running musical, “The Fantasticks” first opened on May 3, 1960, at the Sullivan Theater in New York City.
The musical played 17,162 performances before closing Jan. 13, 2002.
Winner of the Obie Award and the 1992 Special Tony Award, “The Fantasticks” has played in every state in more than 11,103 U.S. productions in more than 2,000 cities and towns.
It has played at the White House, the Ford Theatre and Yellowstone National Park.
The show has also played internationally in 67 nations from Australia to Zimbabwe.
Bringing this timeless love story to the Pittsburgh stage is director Ken Gargaro, who also served as also founding director of Pittsburgh Musical Theater.
Featured cast members are Tim Hartman playing the role of the narrator El Gallo, Daniel MacLaughlin as Matt and Lindsey Carothers as Luisa.
“The enduring story of ‘The Fantasticks’ has appealed to so many audiences over the decades,” said Gavan Pamer, artistic director.
