Cal U to present comedy this weekend
CALIFORNIA – California University of Pennsylvania Department of Theatre and Dance will present “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” by Christopher Durang. “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” will be performed today and Saturday at Steele Auditorium on California University of Pennsylvania campus.
This Durang comedy, with a style all of its own, views one couple’s life through the eyes of their son Matt, played by Johnny Gallagher (of Pittsburgh), as they go from marriage to old age.
Matt shows us how childhood and adolescence was quite deranged as his mother, played by Tania Mansour of New Castle, becomes obsessed with having children, and how his father Boo, played by Adam Bryan of Hermitage, drinks just a bit too much.
If his parents’ disturbing tendencies weren’t enough, poor Matt has to deal with his grandparents and aunts too, who are just as neurotic.
Boo’s drinking all started with his father Karl, played by J.P. Stazel of Scottdale, who is never too far from his next drink, which he is sure to make his obedient wife Soot, played by Sara Shincovich of Greensburg, get for him.
Bette’s side of the family is just as dysfunctional.
Bette’s mother Margaret, played by Jamie Schliffka of East Millsboro, is always trying to make everything perfect, and has to be in control at all times.
Bette’s sister Emily, played by Sascha Newberg of Narberta is constantly apologizing for anything and everything especially to their sister Joan, played by Kelly Potchak of New Enterprise.
Amidst all this chaos Bette’s father Paul, played by Michael Perrotta of Uniontown, just sits by and tries to help.
Yet, somehow with all this pandemonium Matt has to try to stay sane.
