Well-known organist to perform at Asbury

2 min read

The Asbury Festival Recital Series will usher in the Lenten season on Wednesday with an organ recital by internationally acclaimed organist Frederick Swann. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Swann is the national president of the American Guild of Organists and organist emeritus of the famed Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif.

He served for many years as organist and music director of the Riverside Church in New York City before he was appointed to the post at the Crystal Cathedral.

Swann retired as a church organist in 2001, after a 60-year career and devoted his full time to presenting concerts.

This 2002-03 season is his “farewell season” as a touring recitalist.

Swann’s Wednesday evening concert will be performed on Asbury’s 42-rank Austin pipe organ.

Tickets are still available for the Swann concert at the following locations: the Fayette Chamber Office, Ellis Music Store and Judy’s Do-Re-Me Music Shop in Uniontown; Amend’s Jewelry in the Uniontown Mall; and White Picket Fence in Hopwood.

Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more. To purchase tickets, call 724-557-1119.

Tickets may also be purchased two hours before the recital at the Dunbar Street entrance of Asbury Church.

The sanctuary doors will open for all ticket holders at 6:15 p.m.

A meet-the-performer reception will be given in the church social hall immediately following the concert. Asbury Church is located at the corner of South Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street is handicapped accessible.
