WMBS changes music format
Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Barry Manilow and other classic singers will return to WMBS 590 AM starting Monday. WMBS recently announced a change of music format to the “Music of Your Life” style.
“We are returning to music that WMBS was known for in the area,” said Ron Dawson, WMBS station manager. “The change is coming in response to listener’s requests as well as a need to fill a void in music styles in the areas. We listened to the audience’s comments and decided now was the best time for the change.”
In December, a new program was added to Saturday night to “test the waters.” Dawson said long-time local air personality Bill Alexander came back to the station with his program called “American Classic Standards.”
“The program was a hit from the start and made us sure that the change was both wanted and needed,” Dawson said.
The staff of WMBS includes Tim Schwer, mornings, 6 to 11 a.m.; Peter Marshall, MOYL, 11 a.m. to noon; Jim Morgan, news, noon to 1 p.m.; Bob Foltz, “Let’s Talk,” 1 to 3 p.m.; Chuck Southcott, MOYL, 3 to 7 p.m.; Gary Owens, MOYL, 7 to 10 p.m.; Johnny Magnus, MOYL, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Ken Young, MOYL, 2 to 6 a.m.
Local sports will remain an important part of WMBS’s programming with Brian Mroziak and Arnie Amber. The weekend schedule will see some minor changes with Oldies Unlimited and Radio Active Gold moving to Sunday afternoon. Saturday afternoon will now be home to Wink Martindale and Chuck Southcott.
