‘Biker Boyz’ search for family – not booze and brawls
Bythewood constructs “Biker Boyz” much like a Western, with Smoke as the top draw and all of the other young guns (including singer-turned-actor Kid Rock) seeking to take his title. The director also populates the picture with gifted supporting performers, including Lisa Bonet (“Angel Heart”), Orlando Jones (“Drumline”), Larenz Tate (“Love Jones”), Djimon Hounsou (“Gladiator”) and Rick Gonzalez (“The Rookie”). The filmmaker runs out gas in terms of the motorcycle races, which never exhibit the type of raw power displayed by the super-charged car competitions in “The Fast and The Furious,” and some of the camera work seems pretentious. That, however, isn’t really important.
