2 min read

OHIOPYLE – Ohiopyle State Park will offer the following programs this weekend: Today

– 6 to 7:30 p.m., Nature’s Nasties, Kentuck Campground Amphitheater. The outdoors are full of poisonous and troublesome plants and animals.

At this program, park employees will discuss some of nature’s nastiest offenders. Participants will learn how to identify and avoid these creatures.

Saturday

– 10 a.m. to noon, Wild Edibles, Train Station.

Participants will have a chance to sample some foods they never thought they would eat. Many of the items participants will try are considered weeds.

Participants will learn what is good to eat and what only tastes good in a survival situation.

– 8:30 to 10 p.m., Bats. Participants will learn about these misunderstood creatures of the night. They will enjoy a “bat like” activity and then watch a video on Pennsylvania bats.

Some of the rumors that people have heard about these amazing creatures will be dispelled.

Sunday

– 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Insect Safari, Tharp Knob Picnic Area. Participants are asked to bring their best insect hunting gear as they head off into the wilds of Ohiopyle in search of elusive insects.

– 8:30 to 10 p.m., Vieiwing Wildlife, Kentuck Campground Amphitheater.

Participants will find out what creatures they are likely to spot at Ohiopyle and where the wildlife may be hiding.

In case of inclement weather, these programs will be held at the Train Station in downtown Ohiopyle.

Anyone who has a disability and needs an accommodation from the park to participate in these activities is asked to contact the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks at 1-888-PA-PARKS.
