Laurel Valley Corvette Club will present the first of three All Corvette Cruises Saturday, Saturday at Speedy Meedy’s Service Center, which is located on Route 119 across from the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at 9 p.m. A donation will be accepted as the registration fee. The event will feature door prizes, 50/50 drawing, food and beverages. Participants, who register their Corvettes for all three cruises, will be eligible to win the cruiser of the year trophy. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will be the feature entertainer at Nemacolin Woodlands’ Royal Reception XIII, which is scheduled today through Sunday. The reception will provide entertainment by classic rock band the Doobie Brothers and talented actor and tap dancer Gregory Hines. Robin Leach, former host of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” will again be this year’s master of ceremonies. West Overton Museums, located between Scottdale and Mount Pleasant on Route 819, announces the Tumbling Block Quilt Exhibit on display in the basement level of the Overholt Distillery Building through Sunday. Family Fun Fest 2003 will take place Saturday, at the Fayette County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with set up at 9 a.m. Food, entertainment, door prizes and a health fair will also be at the fest. Area agencies or businesses are asked to sponsor a fun activity or craft for families. Sponsoring businesses will also have the chance to advertise their businesses. Food, music and fireworks will be offered during the Fayette County Independence Day Celebration & Cookoff held on the grounds of the Uniontown Mall Sunday. The event begins at noon with musical act Alias J. Brass Knuckles will take the stage from 4 to 6 p.m. and The Povertyneck Hillbillies will play their country tunes from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Children’s activities are Spiderman live on stage from 1 to 2 p.m., Ronald McDonald Karaoke from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. A car show will take place all day, while local restaurants, The Boston Beanery, Caileigh’s of Uniontown, Ruse’s Roost, Thompson Tavern, The Back Bay, Becker’s Shadyside, Garfield’s and the Uniontown Holiday Inn, will compete for the “blind taste test” and the “people’s choice award” for best ribs and wings in Fayette County. A live auction will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Everson Evangelical Church parking lot located at the corner of Painter and Jones streets in Everson. The event is a fundraiser for the Everson Centennial Celebration to be held July 18-20. Call 724-887-3661 for other information.
Smock Heritage Museum is open every Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 27. The museum portrays life in a typical coal mining town during the Coal & Coke Era 1890-1943. On display are a reproduction of a Patch House kitchen, front room or sitting room, bedroom, the local United Mine Workers Union Tavern and soon to be open the Spooner Barbershop with all the original barbershop equipment used at that time. Also on display are several antiques, photos, memoribilia and clothing from that era. The “Company Store” Craft shop offers homemade crafts made by eight to 10 vendors that keep the shelves well stocked and there are several books and videos to educate visitors about life during the Coal & Coke Era. The museum is also open by appointment Sunday through Friday for visitors who cannot make it on a Saturday. The Greater Pittsburgh Rib, Wing and Music Spectacular is scheduled for Fourth of July weekend, July 4-6, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Throughout this weekend, more than 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the festival, where rib and wing vendors compete as customers vote on their favorite mouth-watering recipes. Cash and awards will be given to the first-, second- and third-place winners. Next month will herald the release of the concert schedule and entertainment line up. The Annual Flea Market held by the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill will continue Friday through Sunday, with household items, toys, craft supplies, small appliances and other articles for sale.
