The Grace Notes to sing at Asbury
The Grace Notes, a group of Christian a cappella singers from Penn State University at University Park, will present a concert at Asbury United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Beeson and Dunbar streets in Uniontown, at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Founded in 1995, the group includes 16 Penn State students from several states and various religious denominations who meet for fellowship, rehearsal, Bible study and service projects throughout each semester.
They have worked with inner-city mission groups in New York City, Baltimore, Richmond, Washington, D.C., and Norfolk and have volunteered in soup kitchens and homes for the elderly.
This semester, in addition to Uniontown, they are taking their message to a youth rally in Erie and will perform at a multi-group concert at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The Grace Notes use contemporary a cappella Christian music to reach out to people with their belief that people can be saved only through God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. They use music and drama to present the gospel to others and to spread a message of love for all people. The group’s connection to the Uniontown area is through Kevin Milliken, a 2000 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School, and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Milliken is a junior majoring in music education. He has been a member of this group during his three years at Penn State, and he helps with the arrangement of the music and with the musical direction of the group.
Grace Notes welcomes the opportunity to serve in the communities in which they sing. While in Uniontown, they will spend Saturday, April 26, at the Fayette County Community Action Food Bank. That evening, they will present a concert for the public, followed by a community youth fellowship time/pizza party hosted by the Asbury Youth Fellowship. Any interested youth groups in the area are invited to attend.
On Sunday morning, April 27, the group will take part in the morning worship services at 9 and 11 a.m. The public is invited to come to hear this talented group share its message through music and witness. The concert is free, but a donation will be accepted to help with travel expenses.
