Fourth-grade students to attend PSO concert in Uniontown
Communities in Schools announced the annual Fourth Grade Concert sponsored by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the CIS Community Outreach Program will be held Monday. As they have done during the past seven years, fourth-grade students from area elementary schools will travel to the Uniontown High School Auditorium to enjoy a musical presentation by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra String Quartet.
The musicians have an extensive musical background.
Sarah Clendenning joined the PSO violin section in the 1997-98 season.
Clendenning currently holds the position of first violin.
Previously, she was second violin for both the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Opera and has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Mainly Mozart Festival and the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra.
Originally from Hanover, N.H., Clendenning earned her bachelor of music degree from Oberlin and her master of music degree from the Julliard School.
Violinist Christopher Wu enjoys a diverse career as an orchestral and chamber musician teacher and soloist.
He joined the first violin section of the Pittsburgh Symphony in 1988 and has previously served as concertmaster of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Riverside Orchestra and has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic and Buffalo Philharmonic.
An active chamber musician, Wu is the founding member of the innovative chamber music group Innuendo.
The group performs a wide range of music both here and abroad and will appear this season in Boston, Utah, Palm Desert, the Berkshires and return as guest artists at the Brevard Music Center.
Wu is currently in the faculties of Duquesne University, Geneva College and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
In 1991, he survived a near-fatal automobile accident, and he is grateful for every opportunity to play.
He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and his violin was made by Nicolo Gagliano in Naples in 1727.
Violist Tatjana Mead Chamis has been a member of the PSO since 1993.
Chamis is an active member of the chamber music scene in Pittsburgh.
She began her musical studies on the violin at age 7, switching to the viola at age 15, while studying in Salt Lake City with Mikhail Boguslavsky co-founder of the Moskow Chamber Orchestra.
She graduated in 1994 from the Curtis Institute of Music.
Cellist David Premo has held the position of associate principal cello since January 2000 after joining the symphony in 1992 and having been promoted to fourth chair in 1994.
He came to Pittsburgh from Washington, D.C., where he was assistant principal cellist of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra from 1980-91.
Since coming to Pittsburgh, Premo has become a frequently requested chamber musician and soloist, appearing on Shadyside and Rodef Shalom concert series.
Premo studied cello in his native Chicago with Margaret Evans of the Chicago Symphony, later with Robert Newkirk at Catholic University and most recently with Janos starker at Indiana University.
His cello, which was made in approximately 1860, is by Jean Baptist Vuillaume.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will return to Uniontown and the Laurel Highlands Auditorium at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, for its annual Summer’s Night Concert, which has become a tradition.
The traditional ice cream social follows this “must-attend community event.”
